May Monthly Members Meeting

  • The Odd Fellows Hall 1831 Howe Ave. Sacramento, CA USA (map)

Join us for our May monthly meeting — we’d love to see you there! Our meetings are free and open to the public, with plenty of free parking available. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the meeting begins at 7:00 PM, giving you time to mingle and enjoy the show-and-tell tables before we get started.

Each month features an outstanding speaker, light refreshments, a plant opportunity table, and our popular member show-and-tell. Members bring in their blooming orchids, transforming the room into a mini orchid show. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see beautiful plants up close and talk directly with the growers about how they care for them and keep them thriving.

This month, we’re excited to welcome our very own members Alan Koch, who will be speaking on “Pests & Diseases”, Daniel Pfarr, who will be speaking on "Slipper Orchid Culture" and Tom Pickford, who will be doing an orchid mounting demonstration. This is a 'culture class' where experts from our society and the California Sierra Nevada Judging Center help you understand how to take care of your orchids. This is a great opportunity for all of the new members who signed up at our recent show to learn more about their new orchids. It is also a great opportunity for existing society members to meet the new members and learn something about their orchids. If you have a sick orchid, and would like some help diagnosing what might be wrong with it, please bring it to the meeting in a plastic bag and Alan will take a look at it and help you understand how to bring it back to health.

If you are a new society member, you can come to the meeting and pick up your new member orchid. We have some great quality orchids from Cal-Orchids for you to take home.

We’ll also be hosting AOS judging at this meeting. If you have an orchid you believe may be award-worthy, bring it between 6:00–6:30 PM. The California Sierra Nevada Judging Center will evaluate your plant and, if it qualifies, grant an award — an exciting opportunity for any grower.

Whether you’re a longtime orchid enthusiast or just getting started, we hope you’ll join us. You can become a member at any meeting or event, and we’d be delighted to welcome you into our community and help you grow your best orchids yet.
