February Monthly Meeting

  • The Odd Fellows Hall 1831 Howe Ave. Sacramento, CA USA (map)

Join us for our monthly meeting in February. We’ll have lots of orchids, food & drink and a great speaker. This month, our speaker is none other than Ron Parsons. Ron has traveled the world taking pictures of orchids and other plants. He has been growing orchids for almost 50 years with a particular interest in species. Ron has over 100,000 digital images, most of which are orchids. He is also a published author and avid explorer. Ron will be giving a talk called “Madagascar, A Land of Many Contrasts”. This should be a fascinating talk that shouldn’t be missed.

Here is the information on Ron’s talk:

The vast island nation of Madagascar, is a land that should be visited sooner than later. It is home to many hundreds of native orchid species, most of which are as unique as the other flora, and the fauna of this fourth largest island in the world. Unfortunately, much of the land is environmentally devastated, but the wild areas are home to some of the most incredible experiences a person can have. I may not have had great initial impressions upon arrival and for the first several days, but as the trip progressed my feelings changed. I am filled with indelible and wonderful memories, and a longing to return.

In addition to Ron’s talk, we’ll also have our monthly Show & Tell which is a mini orchid show. We go through each of the orchids our members bring in and say a few words about them. This is a great way to learn more about the wonderful world of orchids and see the kinds of plants our members grow. We’ll have food & drinks after Ron’s talk and we’ll have our monthly raffle after Show & Tell where almost everyone goes home with a new orchid (assuming you buy tickets of course).
