Should I leave this cane? Dendrobium Phal
Hello, I have a Dendrobium and I´m really happy with it because from 5 different orchids that I had this is the only one still alive. The orchid has a cane that I don’t know if I should leave it in there or if I should cut it. It grew really fast and continues.

Thanks for your help.

RE: Should I leave this cane? Dendrobium Phal
YES! You should keep this cane (I'm assume you mean the new growth cane that is slightly sideways). From the look of it, it is a little weak - which could be from too little light or insufficient fertilizer. This new cane is what will do the following: Give you plant energy to bloom by producing chlorophyll and eventually a flower stalk will bloom from this cane.

If you were referring to older canes without leaves (some Dendrobiums lose the leaves off the older canes), keep these too as long as they are plump and not totally shriveled as these are energy stores for the plant and many Dendrobiums and other orchids bloom from these leafless older canes.

Where are you growing your plant? Do you fertilize? With what? You might consider bringing your plant to our next meeting (This Wednesday, October 7th) and have someone look it over! :)

Congrats on keeping it alive... feel free to ask more questions!
