Next Meeting Date: Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 @ Odd Fellows Hall, 1831 Howe Ave. (921-0569), Sacramento

Speaker: 7:00 P.M. Curtis Gean, “Native Orchids of California”
Our speaker for May will be Curtis Gean of Fresno, an AOS judge from our own judging center. Curtis is donating his speaker's fee to the SOS to help defray our expenses of maintaining the judging center. He will be speaking on Native Orchids of California. This talk was originally scheduled for July but Curtis kindly agreed to change months to fill in for a sudden cancellation of a speaker. This will work out better for all of us as the talk comes near the beginning of the blooming season and not toward the end as previously scheduled. The photos in his presentation represent examples of the many different Native species that he's encountered over the past 35 years.
The raffle table plants will be another mix of blooming and species plants from Gold Country Orchids and Howard Gunn's collection so if you liked last month's raffle table here is your chance to benefit again from our local member's and grower's excellent plants! Thanks to Alan and Howard for helping out on such short notice.

AOS Pre-meeting Educational Session:“Tolumnia care and culture” - Susan Wedegaertner beginning at 6:30PM. Take advantage of these short informative sessions.

AOS California Sierra Nevada Judging Center: Plant entry from 6:30 to 7:00. Judging begins at 7:00 P.M.

May Educational Event - Howard and Joan Gunn invite new members (and old) to a Plant Clinic on Saturday, May 3 from 10-12 am. Bring 1, 2, or 3 of your plants and Howard will discuss their culture and/or problems. If you wish to tour the greenhouses, come at 9:30. RSVP appreciated.

About the Sacramento Orchid Society: The Sacramento Orchid Society was founded in 1947 as an educational organization dedicated to providing information on the cultivation of orchids to the greater Sacramento community. The organization currently includes nearly 200 households and over 300 people. The Society's very active membership grows an almost unimaginable number of orchid species and hybrids on windowsills, patios, and in greenhouses. Meetings feature expert speakers from around the world, opportunities for members to sell plants to one another, a raffle of plants, and a delightful measure of fellowship and good times.
